Workstream is seeking a highly creative and hands-on Wearables Prototype Engineer to design, build, and iterate on next-generation wearable devices that integrate seamlessly with our platform. This role operates at the intersection of hardware and software, focusing on rapidly prototyping, testing, and refining wearable solutions aimed at enhancing productivity, communication, and operations for the hourly workforce. The engineer will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and design teams to transform concepts into functional prototypes.

Key responsibilities include designing and building wearable hardware prototypes from concept through functional validation, developing embedded software and firmware to enable real-time data capture and communication, and integrating wearable devices with Workstream’s platform, APIs, and mobile/web applications. The role also involves rapid prototyping using off-the-shelf components and custom PCB designs, conducting testing, debugging, and performance optimization across hardware and software components, and collaborating with product and design teams to define use cases and product requirements. Additionally, the engineer will evaluate new technologies to improve device capabilities and support the transition from prototype to early-stage production.

The ideal candidate has 3–7+ years of experience in hardware engineering, embedded systems, or wearable device development, with strong proficiency in embedded programming languages such as C/C++ or Python. Hands-on experience with microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, or STM32, and familiarity with communication protocols such as BLE, Wi-Fi, UART, I2C, and SPI are essential. Experience in designing and debugging hardware prototypes, including circuit design and PCB development, as well as knowledge of sensors commonly used in wearables, is required. The candidate should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, the ability to move quickly from concept to prototype, and effective collaboration across hardware, software, and product teams.

Workstream offers a mission-driven and value-based company culture dedicated to empowering deskless workers and local businesses. As an early employee at a Series B hyper-growth startup, the candidate will have the opportunity to work with the founding team and industry veterans to accelerate their career. The compensation package includes a competitive salary and equity, comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, and vision), in-office amenities and a stocked kitchen, a 401K plan, pre-tax commuter benefits, a learning and development stipend, and flexible PTO.

The base salary range for this role is between $120,000 and $170,000 in Menlo Park. This range does not include the discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, factors such as skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data are considered.
