Assistant City Solicitor – HIPAA and Privacy Law Unit
The Assistant City Solicitor in the HIPAA and Privacy Law Unit will provide legal counsel to various City departments on matters related to data privacy, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity. This role is part of the City of Philadelphia's Law Department, which serves as general counsel to the entire City government, offering legal advice to all City officials, employees, departments, agencies, boards, and commissions.
Key responsibilities include conducting research, drafting legal opinions, and analyzing legal issues related to HIPAA, other data privacy laws, AI, and cybersecurity. The Assistant City Solicitor will assist in investigating and mitigating HIPAA incidents and addressing complaints concerning HIPAA privacy policies and processes. Additionally, the role involves creating and implementing HIPAA policies, training materials, and other compliance tools.
Candidates must possess a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligible for admission by reciprocity. While this is an entry-level position, one or more years of relevant experience in a legal setting is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent writing abilities, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential.
