Associate Director, Workplace Design
The Associate Director, Workplace Design at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP will lead the firm's global workplace design strategy, ensuring that office environments reflect the firm's values of excellence, discretion, collaboration, and enduring quality. This role involves collaborating with senior leaders and functional teams across the firm, including Global Real Estate & Workplace Strategy leadership, Office Managing Partners, Administrative Directors, and external design partners. The position is based in New York City and reports directly to the Head of Global Real Estate & Workplace Strategy.
Key responsibilities include establishing and leading the global workplace design vision, serving as the firm's design authority for major office projects, and reviewing and providing strategic direction on workplace design concepts to ensure alignment with firm standards and long-term portfolio objectives. The Associate Director will also balance innovation with stewardship, identifying opportunities to modernize the workplace while respecting the firm's culture and professional traditions. Additionally, the role involves developing and maintaining global master planning, programming, and design guideline tools to support consistent execution across regions.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field, with at least 15 years of experience in workplace design or project management for high-profile, complex corporate or professional services environments. Proven people-management experience, including coaching and performance management, is essential. Strong strategic and analytical thinking, exceptional communication and stakeholder-management skills, and proficiency in workplace planning and design tools such as Revit, BIM, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite are also required.
Compensation for this role is competitive, with an estimated base salary range of $230,000 to $260,000 annually.
