Bengoshi Associate, Real Estate practice, Tokyo
This role is for a Bengoshi-qualified Associate in the Real Estate practice at Clifford Chance, one of the world’s preeminent international law firms. The position is based in Tokyo and involves working closely with an experienced team of local and international lawyers advising leading Japanese and global clients. The Real Estate team regularly handles major transactions, financing deals, and advisory work in the Japanese and regional property markets.
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of real estate transaction documents such as leases, sales and purchase agreements, and project development contracts. The Associate will be expected to provide strategic advice on property laws, due diligence, regulatory issues, and assist with cross-border and domestic matters involving large-scale assets. The role also entails active involvement in client meetings and close collaboration with other practice groups in Tokyo and globally.
Candidates must be qualified as a Bengoshi (Japanese lawyer) and possess a solid academic background, ideally with experience in real estate law, transactions, or related practice areas. Strong communication skills in both Japanese and English are essential, as the role functions in a bilingual, international environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation abilities, as well as a proactive, client-centered approach.
