Canonical is seeking a Cloud Support Engineer to join its globally distributed team, providing technical assistance to customers utilizing Ubuntu and other open-source products. This remote position, based in Japan, offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of over 1,100 colleagues across more than 75 countries. In this role, the Cloud Support Engineer will investigate and resolve complex customer issues related to Canonical's product portfolio. Responsibilities include managing support cases to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs), engaging directly with customers through various communication channels, and contributing to the company's knowledge base. The engineer will also participate in a regular weekend working rotation and collaborate with the Ubuntu development team to set accurate customer expectations regarding issue resolution timelines.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Japanese, with JLPT N1 certification preferred for non-native speakers. A strong academic background, including an undergraduate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, is required. Candidates should have extensive experience supporting Linux systems, with proficiency in areas such as virtualization (KVM or OpenStack), containers (Docker, LXD/LXC, Kubernetes), storage technologies, networking, and cloud computing. Advanced troubleshooting skills and programming fundamentals in any language are also essential.
