Co-op: Platform Technologies & Innovation
Prime Medicine is seeking a co-op for the Fall 2026 semester to join the Prime Editing Platform team. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of RNA innovations that enhance Prime Medicine's platform capabilities. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative, fast-paced environment to design, screen, optimize, and validate Prime Editor mRNAs in relevant cell models, supporting and expanding mRNA-based screening efforts. Additionally, the co-op will assist in exploring and developing RNA modalities across the organization, receiving consistent mentorship from experienced scientists and gaining exposure to various lab-based techniques and data analysis methods.
Key responsibilities include conducting mRNA production via in-vitro transcription (IVT) and purification, maintaining mammalian cell cultures, performing cell passaging, and transfecting mammalian cells with Prime Editing reagents to assess gene editing activity. The co-op will execute and develop routine cell-based assays to screen for novel mRNA constructs and perform analytical procedures such as ELISA, luciferase assays, qRT-PCR assays, and genomic DNA analysis. Maintaining a timely and well-organized electronic lab notebook (ELN) and providing preliminary data analysis, interpretation, and contributions to presentations within the Platform team and cross-functional teams are also essential duties.
Candidates should be pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Cell & Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, or related majors. A firm understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry is required, with a background in genome editing considered a plus. Previous wet-lab experience in molecular or cell biology is essential, along with excellent troubleshooting and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in solving complex problems within a cross-functional collaborative environment.
Preferred qualifications include familiarity with cell-based assays, mammalian cell culture and transfection, and nucleic acid biochemistry. Proficiency in lab techniques such as PCR, nucleotide extraction, molecular cloning, and ELISA is advantageous. The ability to use software tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism for data documentation, analysis, and presentation is desirable, as is experience with computational molecular biology tools (e.g., DNA visualization software).
The compensation for this role ranges from $23 to $33 per hour, determined based on factors including relevant experience, skills, and education. Prime Medicine offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package with robust health, financial, and wellness benefits—including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, a 401(k) match, and equity programs—along with generous paid time off, wellness days, and company-wide recharge breaks. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge biotechnology company dedicated to developing next-generation gene editing therapies.
