Copy of Sr. Associate Counsel
Visa is seeking a Senior Associate Counsel to join its Legal and Ethics & Compliance group, focusing on supporting the North America Sales and Client Management team. This role is pivotal in shaping Visa's strategic initiatives and revenue goals within the dynamic payments ecosystem. The position reports directly to the Vice President responsible for this area and involves providing innovative and pragmatic legal guidance for complex commercial agreements with key U.S.-based clients.
Key responsibilities include leading contract negotiations for complex U.S.-focused business transactions, such as incentive and master services agreements with issuers, merchants, processors, and fintechs. The role also involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents to ensure alignment with company policies and objectives. Additionally, the Senior Associate Counsel will engage in extensive business dealings with Visa's external client base, fostering strong partnerships and driving mutual growth. Other duties encompass drafting and managing template agreements, providing day-to-day legal support to account executives, reviewing client-facing materials, and coordinating with global deal teams on incentive deals covering multiple regions.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctorate degree with a strong academic record from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the U.S. or eligible for registered in-house counsel status. A minimum of six years of attorney experience is preferred, particularly in drafting and negotiating complex commercial, licensing, and strategic alliance agreements for technology platforms or financial institutions. Prior in-house experience, including working with sales and product teams, is advantageous. Knowledge of the payment services industry, as well as antitrust, privacy/data, intellectual property, and relevant banking laws and regulations, is beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build relationships with internal clients, and exceptional analytical, written, and oral communication skills are essential.
This is a hybrid position, with the expectation of in-office presence to be confirmed by the hiring manager.
