Development Director
The Development Director at Public Storage plays a pivotal role in overseeing the end-to-end development process of new self-storage facilities. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, this position is based in Frisco, TX, and involves close collaboration with various departments to ensure projects progress from concept to completion efficiently. Public Storage, established in 1972, has grown to become the largest owner and operator of self-storage facilities globally, with thousands of locations across the U.S. and Europe.
Key responsibilities include analyzing and evaluating business needs to align project requirements with company objectives, performing site evaluations and making recommendations for site selections, and leading the collaboration with various departments throughout the development process. The Development Director also oversees the entitlement, design, construction, and scheduling processes of each project, develops feasibility modeling including capital costs budgeting and pro forma return measurements, and manages multiple complex entitlement and development projects simultaneously.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business Administration or Civil Engineering, and have a minimum of 8 years of experience in the development of multiple properties or retail chain development. Proven experience in underwriting and valuation of development opportunities, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent negotiation abilities are essential. The role requires a high degree of self-motivation, integrity, and the capacity to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
