Director, Applied AI
Metropolis is seeking a Director of Applied AI to lead the newly established Applied AI organization and develop an AI-first operating model from the ground up. This role involves defining high-impact AI opportunities across various business functions, including finance, operations, and go-to-market strategies, and building a high-performing team of AI Engineers and Process Analysts to implement these initiatives. The Director will report to senior leadership and play a pivotal role in transforming core processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Key responsibilities include owning the Applied AI roadmap by identifying and prioritizing opportunities to revamp business processes, hiring and leading a team of AI professionals, and fostering a culture of rapid iteration. The Director will collaborate closely with functional leaders to understand existing workflows and design AI-driven solutions to eliminate friction. Additionally, the role involves setting standards for AI workflow design, evaluation, and deployment, as well as establishing metrics to measure the impact of process transformations.
The ideal candidate will have over seven years of experience in software engineering, AI/ML, or technical product leadership, with at least two years leading teams that have deployed AI-powered systems in production. A deep understanding of large language models, agentic workflows, and AI automation tools such as OpenAI, LangChain, and vector databases is essential. Strong engineering skills, a proven track record of driving organizational change through technology, and excellent communication abilities to convey complex AI concepts to non-technical audiences are also required.
The anticipated base salary for this position ranges from $225,000 to $265,000 annually.
