Director, Broker-Dealer Operations
The Director of Broker-Dealer Operations at Betterment will lead the team responsible for overseeing the company's broker-dealer entity, which safeguards over $65 billion in assets for more than one million customers. This role involves managing firm-level dividend and corporate action processing, reconciliations, internal controls, and ensuring compliance with FINRA and SEC financial responsibility rules. The position is based in New York City, with a requirement for in-office attendance from Monday through Thursday each week.
Key responsibilities include managing the broker-dealer operations team, providing feedback and coaching, and overseeing the completion of all required tasks. The director will design and enhance procedures for corporate action processing, control operations, and net capital monitoring. Additionally, the role involves maintaining relationships with key banking and securities servicing vendors, collaborating with Legal and Compliance teams to structure new products and remediate issues, and working with Product and Engineering teams to implement new processes. The director will also collaborate with the finance team on reporting and budgets.
Candidates should have experience in financial service operations, specifically related to securities products such as corporate actions, margin, and transfers. A minimum of five years of management experience in an operational or related team is required. A proven track record of launching new products and processes, as well as building ongoing support, is essential. FINRA Series 7, 24, and/or 27 licenses are required, or the ability to rapidly obtain them. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are also necessary. Experience in FinTech or interacting with auditors and regulators is a plus.
The base salary range for this position is $173,000 to $189,000, depending on factors such as location, experience, and performance.
