Electrical Engineer - Advanced Development
The Electrical Engineer – Advanced Development at Voyager Technologies is responsible for designing, integrating, and qualifying complex electronic hardware systems that support novel technology development efforts. This role emphasizes high-reliability design and technical leadership for in-space computing systems. The engineer will provide technical direction and collaborate closely with other engineering functions to ensure that electrical system architectures meet performance, safety, and mission assurance standards. This position reports to the Vice President of Technology Development and is part of the Technology and Advanced Development department based in Long Beach, CA. The role offers flexibility for onsite and/or hybrid work arrangements.
Key responsibilities include deriving and documenting circuit board requirements from system-level specifications, creating schematic drawings for complex high-speed Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs), and developing functional and design specifications. The engineer will also be involved in the layout and/or guidance of complex PCBs, assist with the manufacturing of PCBAs when necessary, and work with signal integrity, mechanical, and power teams during board design and testing. Additional duties encompass developing test plans and procedures to ensure performance meets specifications, validating designs, troubleshooting and testing complex circuit boards, providing system integration and test troubleshooting support, and supporting internal and external design and development gate reviews with related documentation. Participation in customer meetings, proposals, and trade studies, including evaluating contractor and subcontractor proposals for technical feasibility, is also expected.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, along with over seven years of experience in designing high-speed printed circuit boards. A solid understanding of digital logic, signal integrity, power circuitry, and high-speed PCB design and simulation techniques is essential. Experience with FPGAs/PLDs, Ethernet PHYs, high-speed memories, PLLs, voltage regulators, and switching components is required. Knowledge of computer and system architecture, experience with board simulations, and familiarity with processors, DSPs, and associated interfaces are also necessary. The role demands experience in projects from bring-up through production ramp, creating and reviewing validation/diagnostic test plans, developing tests, and debugging in the lab. Excellent communication skills are a must.
Preferred qualifications include five years of experience in analog and power design, as well as the ability to perform layout of printed circuit boards. The good faith base salary range for this role is $135,000–$185,000 at the time of this posting. Compensation within this range depends on experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
