Canonical is seeking an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of field engineers in the Americas. This role involves overseeing presales and professional services activities, assisting customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery. Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, with Ubuntu being widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.

The Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager will lead and develop a team of field engineers, ranging from graduate to senior levels, in presales and professional services. Responsibilities include solving customer problems by promoting Canonical's technologies, coaching and mentoring team members, implementing disciplined engineering processes, and representing the team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers. The role also involves developing and evangelizing engineering and organizational practices, planning and managing progress on agreed goals and projects, and collaborating with other leaders within the organization.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, extensive embedded Linux experience (preferably with Yocto or similar), and proficiency in at least one programming language such as Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust. Experience with customer engagements, professional written and spoken English, and excellent interpersonal skills are also required. The role requires the ability to manage a small team, a result-oriented mindset, and the capacity to communicate the business benefits of technology.

Canonical offers a distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, an Employee Assistance Programme, opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues, and Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events.

Canonical fosters a workplace free from discrimination, valuing diversity of experience, perspectives, and background to create a better work environment and better products. The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing, offering a unique opportunity to work with a globally distributed team on cutting-edge open-source technologies.
