Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for its BootStack team, which designs, builds, and operates modern distributed systems on private infrastructure for customers. This role involves managing engineers responsible for the day-to-day operations of customer environments, including service management, operations, and product improvement engineering. Collaboration with customers, product engineering, and operations teams is essential.

Key responsibilities include managing a growing engineering team to optimize development and operations quality and velocity, identifying and measuring team health indicators, implementing disciplined engineering and operations processes, representing the BootStack team to stakeholders, ensuring focus on priorities and deliverables, meeting service level agreements globally, and delivering quality managed services consistently and timely.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a technology field, proven experience in software delivery using languages such as Python, Go, C, C++, or Java, and/or managing operations teams. Experience with OpenStack, a strong commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality, Linux system administration (preferably Ubuntu/Debian), strong communication and cooperation skills, experience with agile software development methodologies, managing distributed teams, understanding complex distributed systems, and experience with cloud topologies and technologies are also required. The role may require travel to team and company events and customer meetings, approximately 20% or less.
