Engineering Manager - Solutions Engineering
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Solutions Engineering team, focusing on developing open-source automation capabilities that simplify operations for users building on Ubuntu. This role involves overseeing a globally distributed team of Python engineers, collaborating closely with the managed infrastructure operations team to enhance infra-as-code products based on real-world experiences. The position is home-based and open to candidates worldwide.
Key responsibilities include leading and developing a remote team of Python engineers, hiring, coaching, mentoring, and providing hands-on career development. The manager will directly contribute code, plan and manage project progress, set and manage expectations with other teams, coordinate with stakeholders, advocate for agile software development practices, and foster a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values. The role also involves global travel up to 10% of the time for internal and external events.
The ideal candidate has a passion for developing and growing people, a strong background in agile software development, and experience leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers, particularly in Python. Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, proficiency in Linux server administration, and hands-on experience with software automation are essential. The candidate should be organized, committed to delivering high-quality software promptly, and a lifelong learner.
