GNC Engineer - Electron
Rocket Lab is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer to join the Electron team in Auckland, New Zealand. This role involves designing, implementing, testing, and applying GNC systems for the Electron rocket, contributing to Rocket Lab's mission of providing reliable access to orbit.
The GNC Engineer will be responsible for trajectory optimization and design for orbital missions, auto-sequence design and verification for flight operations, and analysis of optimized trajectories for implementation in flight scenarios. Additional duties include conducting Monte Carlo analyses, designing and verifying spacecraft separation sequences, and supporting various GNC development and maintenance activities for Electron and other programs.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering, along with experience in Python or MATLAB development. A solid understanding of rigid and flexible body dynamics, particularly 6DOF rocket dynamics, and knowledge of orbital mechanics and closed-loop control systems are essential. Experience with optimization for launch vehicle or spacecraft missions is also required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with flight simulator or flight software development for UAVs, rockets, or spacecraft, as well as experience in developing models from fundamental principles and validating them through testing. Familiarity with continuous integration environments and tools like Simulink is advantageous.
