The Head of Security Operations at Canonical is a global leadership role responsible for managing the Security Operations (SecOps) team. This team is tasked with designing, implementing, and evolving security practices, tools, systems, and policies to protect Canonical's data, internal infrastructure, and build processes. The role involves ensuring the security and integrity of the company's infrastructure and product deployments, as well as contributing to the security of the wider open-source ecosystem.

Key responsibilities include hiring and mentoring a team of technical security professionals, defining security standards and playbooks, and driving the architecture and design of the Security Operations Center (SOC). The role also involves analyzing and improving Canonical's security architecture, evaluating and implementing new security tools and practices, and identifying and guiding the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks. Additionally, the position requires contributing to open-source threat intelligence initiatives and developing learning and development materials for SecOps.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of mitigating advanced threat actors and nation-state threats, with expert technical understanding of SOCs from the ground up. In-depth knowledge of SOC architecture and design, including strategies for logging, firewalls, network segmentation, and honeypots, is essential. Expertise in Linux security, the ability to define and implement effective incident response playbooks, and experience with security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF are also required. Strong leadership and management abilities, excellent business English writing and presentation skills, and a deep personal motivation to be at the forefront of technology security are crucial for this role.
