Hearing Representative
The United Firm | La Liga Defensora, APC is seeking an experienced Hearing Representative with a strong background in California Workers’ Compensation Law. This role involves representing clients at hearings, conferences, and trials before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB). The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and be committed to delivering exceptional service.
Key responsibilities include representing clients in hearings, trials, status conferences, lien conferences, and mandatory settlement conferences at WCAB. The Hearing Representative will prepare exhibits, documents, settlement demands, and trial briefs, negotiate settlements such as Stipulations, Compromise and Releases (C&Rs), and vocational rehabilitation claims, and review and analyze medical reports, deposition transcripts, subpoenaed records, and case files to determine case value and appropriate legal strategy. Maintaining case status and documentation in the case management system, communicating with clients, opposing counsel, medical providers, lien claimants, and adjusters, and ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical obligations under state bar rules and workers' compensation regulations are also essential aspects of the role.
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is preferred. A Certified Hearing Representative per CCR §10774 or equivalent WCAB appearance experience is necessary, along with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in California Workers’ Compensation cases. Strong knowledge of WCAB procedures, DWC regulations, and the California Labor Code is essential. The candidate should have the ability to analyze legal documents, medical reports, and settlement issues, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have a valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to WCAB locations as needed. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is required, and proficiency with legal software such as EAMS, MerusCase, or Filevine is preferred. Strong negotiation and case valuation skills are also important, with experience in applicant or defense firms being a plus.
