Canonical is seeking an Information Systems Architect to lead the design and implementation of infrastructure as code on a global scale. This role is integral to the Information Systems (IS) team, which manages all IT operations at Canonical, including the infrastructure for building, packaging, and distributing Ubuntu worldwide. The successful candidate will influence the Ubuntu user experience for millions and guide Canonical's engineers in utilizing compute and network resources within a DevOps framework.

Key responsibilities include defining and executing a comprehensive vision for a world-class internal cloud, developing and maintaining technical design roadmaps to enhance reliability and scalability, and collaborating with cloud-ops software development teams to build standardized and automated operations. The role also involves providing strategic input to IS management on technology and business cases, leading technical decisions to implement scalable self-service solutions, and working with security teams to establish best practices and mitigate emerging threats. Additionally, the architect will automate operations for reuse across large enterprises and analyze incidents to implement structural improvements.

Candidates should possess an exceptional academic record, including a technical undergraduate degree or a compelling alternative path. Essential qualifications include extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and operations, practical experience with Linux networking, routing, and firewalls, and a proven track record in managing significant production outages and incident responses. A passion for open-source software, particularly Ubuntu or Debian, and strong communication skills in English are also required. Desirable skills encompass a background in modern software engineering practices and hands-on experience with automated administration of enterprise Linux servers at scale.

Canonical offers a distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, and an Employee Assistance Program. The company also provides opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues and offers Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events.

As a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of the global move to open source, Canonical publishes Ubuntu, a leading open-source project and platform for AI, IoT, and the cloud. The company is committed to excellence, fostering a workplace free from discrimination, and values diversity of experience, perspectives, and background to create better work environments and products.
