Legal Counsel (16 Month Contract)
HelloFresh is seeking a Legal Counsel for a 16-month contract to cover maternity leave. Reporting to the North American General Counsel, this role supports the Canadian business and involves cross-border collaboration within North America. The position offers a dynamic environment for a proactive, business-focused legal professional to address complex legal issues and mitigate risks in a fast-paced setting.
Key responsibilities include managing a high volume of contracts across various business areas, leading legal support for brand partnerships and marketing initiatives, and providing operational legal guidance to teams such as procurement and logistics. The role also involves conducting legal research on relevant legislation, identifying potential liabilities, drafting formal legal correspondence, liaising with government bodies for compliance, collaborating with the U.S. legal team to ensure regional consistency, overseeing external legal counsel, and serving as the Data Privacy Officer and Local Compliance Officer for Canada.
The ideal candidate is an experienced lawyer with a minimum of 5 years post-call to the Ontario Bar, possessing both in-house legal counsel experience—preferably in a Consumer Packaged Goods company—and relevant law firm experience. A proven track record in drafting and negotiating diverse contracts, the ability to manage a high volume of contracts accurately and efficiently, and a proactive approach to issue-spotting and escalation are essential. Broad legal knowledge across contract negotiation, commercial law, marketing, procurement, and data privacy is required, along with strong collaboration skills across different time zones and business units. A JD/LLB from an Ontario law school and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario are mandatory.
Compensation for this role ranges from CAD $145,000 to $155,000 annually. Benefits include health and dental coverage from day one, a Health Spending Account, unlimited access to the Headspace app, and discounts on fitness memberships. Employees enjoy generous vacation and paid time off, a parental leave top-up program, and support for career progression through development opportunities and learning funds. The company fosters a collaborative culture with team socials, company events, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion through various employee resource groups.
HelloFresh offers a flexible hybrid work approach, allowing employees to work from home up to 50% of the time and remotely within Canada for up to four weeks per year. The company emphasizes a people-first approach based on choice, trust, and personalization, empowering teams to decide when and how often they work from the office or home, in addition to team and company days.
