Legal Director, X Payments
The Legal Director, X Payments at xAI will lead the regulatory, product, and commercial aspects of launching new payment services globally. This role involves significant cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, policy, operations, and business teams to develop payment functionalities within the X platform. xAI is dedicated to creating AI systems that enhance humanity's understanding of the universe, operating with a small, highly motivated team focused on engineering excellence.
Key responsibilities include becoming a subject matter expert in supported products, providing legal advice to product teams, reviewing new and modified products for legal risk mitigation, and drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with third-party partners. The role also involves coordinating with various teams on external communications, policy development, and product launches, as well as advising on legislative and regulatory matters related to payments. Additionally, the Legal Director will support the Chief Compliance Officer in risk management and regulatory engagements.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to the bar in at least one U.S. state. A minimum of 8 years of legal experience focusing on payments, preferably in the financial services or fintech industry, is required. Strong knowledge of federal and state laws governing payment services, including BSA/AML, Dodd-Frank, UCC, and consumer protection laws, is essential. Experience working with payment networks, banks, processors, and regulatory agencies, along with excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, is also necessary.
