Latham & Watkins LLP, a leading global law firm, is seeking a Legal Engineering Attorney to join its Technology & Information Services team. This role focuses on designing AI-native systems that convert legal expertise into machine-executable outputs, such as prompts, schemas, evaluation suites, playbooks, and end-to-end workflows. The position is available in New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., or Los Angeles, with potential for a flexible working schedule that includes hybrid and in-office presence.

Key responsibilities include re-engineering existing manual workflows for AI-first execution, translating practice group playbooks and checklists into structured artifacts, codifying the tacit knowledge of senior practitioners into machine-readable form, and curating exemplar matters and precedents to drive AI system development. Additionally, the role involves protecting and maintaining sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and proprietary information.

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and a bachelor's degree in law, computer science, information systems, or a related field. A minimum of two years of substantive legal practice experience at a law firm or in-house legal department, with ownership of complex litigation or advisory matters, is required. Additionally, at least two years of full-time experience as a Legal Engineer, Legal Knowledge Engineer, Legal Workflow Engineer, Innovation Attorney, or a comparable role focused on operationalizing legal expertise into AI-driven systems and workflows is necessary. Experience at a legal AI company, law firm innovation team, alternative legal services provider, or software company building tools for lawyers is preferred. Hands-on experience with AI platforms designing or evaluating law-related workflows or agents is also advantageous.

The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $220,000 to $250,000 per year, with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance. Eligible employees can participate in Latham's comprehensive benefit program, which includes healthcare, life and disability insurance, a generous 401(k) plan, at least 11 paid holidays per year, and a paid time off (PTO) program that accrues 23 days during the first year of employment and grows with tenure. Additional benefits include well-being programs, professional development programs, employee discounts, and participation in affinity groups, networks, and coalitions for lawyers and staff.

Latham & Watkins is committed to fostering a supportive and innovative culture, empowering employees to build exceptional careers. The firm offers opportunities for professional growth and development, encouraging individuals to thrive as exceptional professionals in a collaborative environment.
