Manager, Software Engineering - Ad Serving
Viant Technology is seeking a passionate Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented backend engineers in developing low-latency, high-throughput ad tech systems. This role requires a strong technical foundation in Go and Java, along with solid experience in microservices, serverless architecture, and database systems. The successful candidate will oversee the design and implementation of features for Viant's ad serving and measurement system, collaborating closely with partner engineering teams and product management.
Key responsibilities include leading the development of high-quality features based on product manager requirements, driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize performance, reliability, and scalability, and occasionally contributing to code and design. The Engineering Manager will also operate high-efficiency teams by implementing quality practices, ensuring speed of delivery, overseeing architecture and design, and maintaining high code quality. Additionally, fostering a culture of continuous growth and improvement through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and clear measurable outcomes is essential.
The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience, including 1-3 years managing low-latency, high-throughput backend teams. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required, with a Master's preferred. Proficiency in Java and/or Go Lang, a track record in building large, horizontally scalable distributed systems, and intimate knowledge of cloud providers and services, especially AWS and GCP, are essential. Experience building large-scale, customer-facing applications with a focus on real-time performance, scalability, and reliability, as well as the ability to reason about latency, throughput, CPU/memory profiles, and performance bottlenecks in real-time systems, is highly desirable. Successful experience with agile development and CI/CD processes is also preferred.
Viant offers a competitive base compensation range of $150,000 to $200,000, with final title and compensation based on factors including work experience and education.
