As the publisher of Ubuntu, Canonical provides open-source software and operating systems to enterprise and technology markets worldwide. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to services that support millions of Ubuntu clients and critical infrastructure globally.

In this position, you will be responsible for writing high-quality, well-designed, and robust software that operates at scale. Your day-to-day tasks will include designing APIs and software architecture for peer review, writing tests to validate software behavior, and building and maintaining reliable, fault-tolerant applications and services. Collaboration with a globally distributed team is essential, as is displaying technical leadership both internally and within external communities.

The ideal candidate will possess an exceptional academic track record, with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or a compelling alternative path. Proficiency in Python and/or Go is required, along with experience in writing modern, maintainable software. Familiarity with relational and non-relational database systems, continuous integration and delivery practices, and systems programming or scalable web services is also essential. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to travel twice a year for company events are important.

Canonical offers a distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, and comprehensive leave policies. Additional benefits include maternity and paternity leave, an Employee Assistance Programme, opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues, and travel upgrades for long-haul company events.

Joining Canonical means becoming part of a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of the global move to open source. As the company behind Ubuntu, we are changing the world of software and expect excellence from our team members. Working here will challenge you to think differently, work smarter, learn new skills, and raise your game.
