PC Platforms Kernel Engineer - Ubuntu Linux
Canonical is seeking a dedicated Linux kernel engineer to join their team, focusing on enhancing Ubuntu's compatibility with emerging hardware platforms. This role involves collaborating with leading OEM partners to deliver Ubuntu on next-generation laptops, desktops, and workstations. The position is based in either Taipei, Taiwan, or Beijing, China.
The engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality kernel support for a diverse range of hardware devices. Key tasks include diagnosing and resolving kernel issues reported by QA teams, customers, and the community, as well as enabling new Linux kernel features as requested by customers. The role also involves submitting, reviewing, and applying kernel patches in collaboration with both internal and external upstream maintainers.
Candidates should possess significant programming experience in C, with additional skills in Python and Bash scripting being advantageous. A solid background with git, knowledge of the Linux kernel and its subsystems, and experience with kernel patching and debugging are essential. Familiarity with Linux kernel upstream processes and release cycles, as well as a strong grasp of device drivers and low-level system engineering, are also required. Prior experience with Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging and knowledge of ACPI and UEFI are desirable. The role requires effective communication skills in English and a willingness to travel globally up to four times a year for engineering events.
