Principal Software Engineer (Python, AI)
As a Principal Software Engineer at Diligent Corporation, you will lead the technical direction of our AI-enabled platform, architecting secure, scalable, serverless systems on AWS. This role involves defining patterns and governance practices adopted by multiple teams and guiding the integration of AI across the stack. Your impact will be measured by the systems, architectures, and standards you establish, rather than individual output. You will mentor senior engineers, lead organization-wide design decisions, and serve as the go-to technical leader for complex challenges.
Key responsibilities include shaping engineering strategy with broad organizational impact, influencing long-term architectural direction across multiple teams and products. You will drive platform evolution by identifying cross-cutting pain points and leading the design of secure, scalable, reusable solutions built on AWS and modern serverless and microservice patterns. Additionally, you will own AI architectural decisions end-to-end, designing AI-enabled systems with built-in governance, monitoring, and regulatory readiness from the outset. Acting as the organization's AI thought leader, you will educate engineering teams on model behavior, agentic systems, and responsible AI practices, raising the overall maturity of AI design and deployment.
The ideal candidate will have a principal-level track record at scale, with over 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years operating at Staff or Principal Engineer level in an organization of 100+ engineers. You should have deep, opinionated AWS platform expertise, having designed multi-account AWS architectures and made critical decisions regarding serverless implementations. Experience in shipping AI-enabled systems into production, with a strong understanding of AI governance in practice, is essential. A proven track record in designing and shipping RESTful APIs and backend platform components using Node.js/TypeScript is also required. Strong organizational communication and influence skills are necessary to align stakeholders on complex technical decisions and mentor other senior technical leaders.
