Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems
Canonical is seeking a Project Manager for its Devices business to oversee complex customer-facing projects involving the delivery of Ubuntu images across a diverse range of devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This high-profile role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with team members, customers, partners such as silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs, and various Canonical departments.
The Project Manager will manage projects through their entire lifecycle, ensuring that both Canonical's and the client's goals are met. Responsibilities include delivering engineering professional services, collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement, developing project statements of work, drafting and maintaining project-specific schedules, obtaining client agreement on project plans, managing project risks, driving technical issues to resolution, and maintaining regular communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
Candidates should have solid project management experience in delivering engineering services to customers, managing software development teams, and field engineers. Extensive experience in managing projects with cross-cultural and multi-continent resources is preferred. A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math is desirable, along with good knowledge of Linux, the open-source software community, and computer architecture. Excellent communication skills in English, strong leadership and problem-solving abilities, and certifications such as PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 Practitioner are advantageous. The role requires flexibility to work non-standard hours to support a worldwide sales and project team and a willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.
