Senior Application Security Engineer, AI and Machine Learning
Lightning AI is seeking a Senior Application Security Engineer to enhance the security of our AI, machine learning, and inference platforms. This role involves collaborating with platform engineers, ML engineers, and infrastructure teams to identify risks, design secure architectures, and develop security tools that facilitate rapid and safe engineering processes. The position is based in our San Francisco or Seattle offices, with a requirement of at least two in-office days per week.
Key responsibilities include performing threat modeling across AI platforms, inference services, and ML pipelines; identifying risks such as prompt injection, model extraction, adversarial inputs, and data leakage; reviewing model serving architectures and inference pipelines; and partnering with ML engineers to secure training, fine-tuning, and deployment workflows. Additionally, the role involves conducting architecture and design security reviews, performing targeted code reviews for high-risk components, and building secure patterns for authentication, authorization, and service-to-service communication.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in application security engineering, experience performing threat modeling and architecture reviews, and expertise in securing APIs and distributed systems. Proficiency in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as experience with containers and Kubernetes, is essential. Strong scripting or programming skills in languages like Python or Go are required. Experience securing ML pipelines, inference systems, or data platforms, and familiarity with risks such as prompt injection and model extraction, are also important.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this role is $180,000 to $220,000 USD.
