Senior Applied Scientist

Garner Health is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to enhance our core search systems, focusing on provider selection and recommendation algorithms. This role is integral to our mission of transforming the healthcare economy by guiding members to high-quality, cost-effective care through data-driven insights.

In this position, you will develop and own algorithms that power Garner's search functionality. Responsibilities include designing objective functions, scoring frameworks, and decision logic that balance quality, cost, and access. You'll translate complex product and business challenges into robust algorithmic solutions and collaborate with engineering teams to implement these systems at scale.

The ideal candidate has over four years of experience using Python and SQL to build production-level, data-driven algorithms. Strong problem-solving skills are essential, with the ability to define effective metrics and design algorithms amidst ambiguity. Proficiency in selecting appropriate methods—be it statistical models, heuristics, or optimization techniques—is crucial. Excellent communication skills are required to convey complex ideas to both business and technical stakeholders.

This role is based in our New York City office, with an expectation to work on-site three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). The target salary range is $200,000 to $240,000, with eligibility for equity incentives and comprehensive benefits, including flexible PTO, medical/dental/vision plans, 401(k) with company match, flexible spending accounts, and Teladoc Health services.
