Senior Counsel
Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its litigation team in Scottsdale, AZ; Lansdowne, VA; or Dallas, TX. ADF is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending religious freedom, free speech, the sanctity of life, marriage and family, and parental rights. The Senior Counsel will play a pivotal role in handling complex civil litigation, particularly focusing on First Amendment law and 42 U.S.C. § 1983 civil rights actions.
In this role, the Senior Counsel will be responsible for litigating complex cases at both appellate and trial levels, taking immediate legal action in urgent circumstances, and investigating potential cases. The position involves representing clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies, supervising and mentoring junior attorneys, reviewing and editing substantive briefs, and participating in moot courts for appellate and trial cases. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will maintain the quality of all legal papers, conduct advanced legal research on novel issues, interview clients and witnesses, prepare and file legal briefs, develop strategies, arguments, and testimony for case presentations, and provide legal advice on relevant laws, rulings, and regulations.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, an active license in at least one U.S. state bar, and be capable of meeting admission requirements in the relevant jurisdiction within one year. A minimum of 10 years of complex litigation experience is required. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, and Westlaw, are essential. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, along with strong organizational, analytical, attention to detail, and project management skills, are necessary. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is crucial.
