Senior/Staff/Principal Engineer
Canonical is seeking Senior, Staff, and Principal Engineers to join its globally distributed team. As a leader in open-source software, Canonical develops and maintains Ubuntu, a widely used platform in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful open-source projects and collaborate with a diverse team across various time zones.
In this position, you will lead the design and architecture of significant open-source projects, write high-quality code in languages such as Golang, Rust, Python, C/C++, or TypeScript/React, and proactively collaborate with a globally distributed team. Responsibilities also include mentoring colleagues, demonstrating technical leadership within Canonical and its communities, debugging issues, producing high-quality fixes, and contributing to comprehensive technical documentation. The role is remote, with global travel twice annually for company events.
Candidates should possess an exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field, or a compelling alternative path. A proven track record of exceeding expectations, technical leadership, deep experience with at least one of the specified programming languages, attention to detail with a focus on performance, excellent communication skills in professional English, and the ability to travel twice a year for company events are required.
