Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer
Canonical is seeking a Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer to join its OEM Delivery Team, which collaborates with leading OEMs, ODMs, and silicon partners to pre-load Ubuntu on various hardware platforms. This role focuses on delivering an optimal Ubuntu experience on partner hardware across industries such as robotics, automotive, medical devices, and industrial gateways.
The engineer will provide software and system engineering services to OEM and ODM customers, work closely with partners on platform bring-up, and collaborate with project managers and QA engineers to identify and resolve critical issues. Responsibilities also include conducting root cause analyses, applying patches for bugs, and facilitating communication between Ubuntu, firmware, and hardware engineering teams. Occasional international travel to regions including the EU, USA, Taiwan, and China is expected.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or higher degree in STEM fields, preferably Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, with an exceptional academic track record. Required skills include proficiency in C, Python, and Bash, familiarity with the Linux boot-up process, and experience in Linux kernel and system-level architecture. Experience with bootloader development, such as U-Boot, and software development on ARM or non-x86 platforms is also essential. Strong debugging abilities and the capacity to work productively in a globally distributed team are crucial.
