Software Engineer, Ubuntu Commercial Computers
Canonical's OEM Delivery Team collaborates with leading OEM, IHV, and ODM partners to pre-install Ubuntu Classic and Ubuntu Core, delivering Ubuntu directly to millions of users. As a Software Engineer in this team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Ubuntu operates seamlessly on various hardware systems, contributing to cutting-edge technology alongside world-class partners.
In this role, you will work closely with project managers and Field/QA engineers to identify, triage, and resolve critical system-level issues. Your responsibilities include collaborating with upstream projects to apply patches for bugs affecting OEM/ODM customers and advocating for the inclusion of locally-developed patches in upstream packages. Additionally, you will provide software and system engineering services tailored to the needs of OEM and ODM clients.
The ideal candidate has a strong passion for Linux and open-source projects, with prior participation in open-source development. Proficiency in English, especially in online communication platforms like mailing lists and IRC, is essential. Excellent time-management skills and the ability to remain productive in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and motivation are also required.
While not mandatory, demonstrated contributions to open-source projects and fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese are advantageous. The position may require occasional international travel to regions including the EU, USA, China, and Taiwan.
