Software Engineering Manager, Lab Informatics Platform
Profluent is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Lab Informatics Platform team. This team is responsible for developing systems that enable scientists to design experiments, track samples, capture assay data, integrate with laboratory automation tools, and manage experimental data for analysis and machine learning applications. Profluent, founded in 2022 and based in Emeryville, CA, focuses on AI-driven protein design to revolutionize biomedicine.
In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of software engineers, guiding the development of lab informatics systems and scientific data infrastructure. Your responsibilities include architecting and delivering systems that support sample tracking, assay data capture, integration with platforms like Benchling, and lab automation. Collaborating closely with wet-lab scientists, automation engineers, data scientists, and machine learning experts, you will translate complex laboratory requirements into scalable software solutions that enhance Profluent's design-build-test-learn cycle.
The ideal candidate has over seven years of software engineering experience, including at least two years in a leadership role. A strong technical background with proficiency in Python, backend development, databases, APIs, and modern software engineering workflows is essential. Experience in building lab informatics systems, scientific data platforms, or research-focused software is highly desirable. Additionally, familiarity with data modeling and database design for complex scientific workflows, as well as the ability to work closely with scientists to translate laboratory workflows into reliable software systems, is important.
