This team manages a comprehensive software stack, from the kernel to user-space applications and IaaS platforms, ensuring the reliability and performance of Canonical's offerings. The role involves overseeing a regional team and reporting directly to the global Director of Sustaining Engineering.

Key responsibilities include managing and leading a distributed team of engineers, hiring and mentoring team members, and providing career development guidance. The manager will oversee the timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and technical solutions across various technologies, including Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, Juju, and MAAS. Additionally, the role requires setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders, while advocating for modern software development practices and fostering a collaborative engineering culture.

The ideal candidate will have professional software delivery experience with languages such as C, C++, Go, or Python, and a strong passion for software development. Leadership experience in organizing and prioritizing complex problem resolution and bug fixes is essential. Proficiency with version control systems like Git, debugging tools such as gdb or crash, and a commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality are required. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, and experience with Linux, particularly Ubuntu, are also necessary. Experience with open-source business models and people management in a support organization are strong pluses.

Canonical offers a distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, and an Employee Assistance Programme. There are opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues and access to Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events.

As a pioneer in open-source software, Canonical provides a dynamic and collaborative work environment. Employees have the opportunity to work on impactful projects that reach millions of users worldwide. The company emphasizes professional growth, offering learning and development opportunities, and fosters a culture of innovation and excellence. Joining Canonical means being part of a team that values diversity, collaboration, and the advancement of open-source technologies.
