Sony Immersive Music Studio Summer Associate 2026
Sony Immersive Music Studios, based in Culver City, CA, is dedicated to reimagining music through creativity and technology. We create and distribute immersive experiences for music fans worldwide using real-time 3D software. We are seeking passionate creators to lead a new era of entertainment.
This summer, we are sponsoring a 10-week innovation program for select undergraduate and graduate students from technical and creative fields. Participants will work closely with music and entertainment executives to develop next-generation immersive content experiences. The program runs from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026.
Summer Associates will gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies associated with Unreal Engine and immersive music-based experiences. They will explore ethical generative AI tools and workflows to create compelling audiovisual music experiences. Additionally, they will develop an original immersive music experience focused on cloud gaming, using mobile phones as controllers. Access to both released and unreleased tools and technologies will be provided, along with mentorship from senior executives. Participants will also gain business knowledge about the music industry and meet with executives from various business units and leading content/technology companies. The program concludes with a showcase of final projects to a panel of Sony executives.
Candidates should have working knowledge of Unreal Engine and its key components, such as Niagara, Lumen, Sequencer, Metahuman, Blueprints, and next-generation creator tools. Experience in building gameplay systems and mechanics, technical art with a focus on VFX systems and 3D assets, and designing high-quality original characters using Metahuman is required. Understanding and experience with generative AI tools and techniques are essential. Proficiency in 2D or 3D art, animation, texturing, or UX/UI design using tools like Maya, Blender, Substance, 3DS Max, and Adobe Creative Suite is expected. Experience in creating high-quality cinematics in UE5, including environments, props, characters, lighting, VFX, and virtual cameras, is also necessary. Strong artistic and aesthetic skills, the ability to quickly prototype and iterate, and a passion for building immersive environments with a focus on music are important. Self-motivation, drive for excellence, and excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential.
