Sr Counsel - Policy & Regulatory
The Senior Counsel - Policy & Regulatory at HopSkipDrive is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the company's state and federal regulatory compliance, leading legislative engagement, and managing a litigation portfolio. This position requires a legal professional adept at navigating the intersection of policy and operations, capable of translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable compliance strategies. The role also involves building credibility with government agencies and internal partners, and overseeing litigated cases from inception to resolution.
Key responsibilities include managing multi-state regulatory obligations, drafting and submitting regulatory filings, advising on contract provisions with regulatory implications, and guiding internal stakeholders on compliance matters. The role also entails monitoring and analyzing federal and state legislation affecting the company's operations, developing legal and policy positions on pending legislation, and representing the company's interests in regulatory rulemakings. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will oversee a portfolio of claims related to labor and employment, manage civil litigation cases, and coordinate responses to public records and disclosure requests.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in their jurisdiction. A minimum of 8 years of experience in governmental affairs and/or regulatory compliance is required, with at least 5 years practicing law in a law firm or in-house role. Experience with public utilities commissions, transportation, or education fields is preferred. Exceptional analytical skills, the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
