As a Senior Engineering Manager on Betterment's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team's Developer Experience squad, you will lead efforts to enhance the developer journey from code commit to production. This role involves collaborating closely with engineering teams across the company to provide streamlined workflows, efficient feedback loops, and a suite of development tools that empower developers. Betterment is a technology-driven financial services company headquartered in New York City, offering investing, savings, and retirement solutions to a diverse clientele.

In this position, you will oversee the development of abstractions that simplify the development process, making it easier for developers to commit, test, build, deploy, and monitor code. Responsibilities include building and maintaining frameworks, tools, and infrastructure that enable engineering teams to operate more efficiently. Additionally, you will guide teams in effectively leveraging AI-powered development tools and integrating AI capabilities into developer workflows where they add value.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in software development toolchains and environments, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, service level indicators and objectives (SLIs/SLOs), and observability practices. Experience in managing, mentoring, and inspiring a team of talented engineers, including senior engineers, is essential. A passion for software engineering and improving the developer experience, along with experience collaborating with other engineering teams, product managers, and non-technical stakeholders, is highly valued.

Compensation for this role includes a base salary range of $210,000 to $240,000, depending on factors such as location, experience, and performance. Betterment offers a competitive equity package, health, dental, and vision benefits, life and AD&D insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance programs, commuter and parking benefits, flexible spending accounts (FSA/HSA), and a 401(k) plan with employer match. The company also provides a flexible paid time off policy and may offer variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.

Betterment fosters a culture that values transparency, inclusivity, mentorship, and collaboration. The company is committed to continuous innovation and seeks individuals who are eager to meet both the near- and long-term strategic needs of a complex organization. Joining Betterment means being part of a team that is passionate about empowering people to build wealth with confidence and ease.
