Staff Data Engineer
Komodo Health is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join the Data Foundations team, which is responsible for developing the core data products that power the company's Healthcare Map. This role involves architecting and delivering foundational data assets and serving capabilities that transform complex healthcare data into trusted, production-ready resources for both customers and internal applications. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to Komodo Health's mission of reducing the global burden of disease through innovative data solutions.
The Staff Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable data products that support direct customer use cases, APIs, analytics platforms, and internal applications. Key duties include developing high-performance data processing systems across large-scale healthcare datasets, creating shared data models and reusable libraries, and building data products that are easily consumable through various delivery mechanisms. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate complex healthcare requirements into production-grade technical designs and leading multi-quarter initiatives with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
Candidates should have extensive experience in building large-scale, production-grade data products and services that address real customer and business needs. Proficiency in modern data systems, including SQL, distributed data processing, cloud data platforms, and high-scale compute frameworks such as Spark, Python, Rust, or C++, is essential. The role requires strong skills in data modeling, system design, and architecture, as well as the ability to reason through complex healthcare data challenges. Experience in designing data workflows that support AI/ML applications and a strong analytical and statistical background are also important.
The position offers a competitive annual base salary, with compensation varying based on geographic location. For candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City, the salary range is $208,000 to $282,000 USD. For all other U.S. locations, the range is $181,000 to $245,000 USD.
