Staff Platform Engineer (Pacific Time Zone)
Komodo Health is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead the technical direction of its core control plane, including KMC/PSS, identity and access management, subscription lifecycle, and the SDKs and tools that power all Komodo products. This role is integral to ensuring the platform's reliability, security, cost-efficiency, and ease of use, enabling over 150 client organizations and internal product teams to operate effectively at scale. The engineer will collaborate closely with Product, Forward-Deployed Engineering, and customer-facing teams to translate complex onboarding and platform requirements into robust, well-documented systems.
Key responsibilities include developing a deep understanding of the platform and its users, delivering major subscription service initiatives to improve onboarding and operational efficiency, and serving as the technical owner of core platform contracts such as APIs, data models, events, and RBAC patterns. The role also involves architecting and deploying custom Model Context Protocol tooling and autonomous agents to automate complex platform engineering tasks, contributing to the development of secure and reliable API endpoints and platform services, and enhancing monitoring, alerting, and observability for platform services. Additionally, the engineer will act as the escalation point for complex, cross-system incidents and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new feature rollouts and integrate authentication services with various APIs and external systems.
The ideal candidate will have expert-level backend engineering experience, particularly with Python and FastAPI, in building and operating APIs and microservices at scale. They should have a proven track record in designing and evolving core platform primitives in a multi-tenant SaaS environment, profound experience with AWS core services, and familiarity with modern data platforms and workflow tools such as Snowflake, Airflow, and Spark. The candidate should also possess strong debugging and technical troubleshooting skills, the ability to design solutions balancing performance, cost, maintainability, reliability, and developer experience, and demonstrated ability to drive complex, cross-team projects to completion. Comfort with leveraging AI tools like Cursor, ChatGPT, and Gemini to improve engineering velocity and quality is also desired.
