As a Technical Engineering Lead (Back End) at Point Digital Finance, Inc., you will oversee the full-stack architecture for our customer-facing conversion and engagement platforms, with a primary focus on backend services, APIs, and data flows. Leading a team of 3–6 engineers, you will balance hands-on backend development with architectural leadership across the stack. This role is 100% remote and open exclusively to candidates residing in Canada.

Your key responsibilities will include defining and evolving the full-stack architecture for growth surfaces such as landing pages, onboarding flows, conversion funnels, and personalization layers, emphasizing backend services and data flows. You will champion a component-driven design system that supports A/B testing, feature flagging, and rapid experimentation. Additionally, you will drive performance optimization across the stack, including backend response times, API efficiency, database query performance, and frontend delivery, to enhance conversion and engagement. Collaborating with Design, Product, and Marketing teams, you will scope experiments, translate requirements into scalable backend services and accessible frontend implementations, and prioritize conversion improvements. You will also translate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders and use written documentation to drive alignment on architectural decisions. Remaining hands-on, you will write and review code daily across backend (Ruby, Python) and frontend (TypeScript/React), with the majority of your time spent on backend services, APIs, and infrastructure. Providing accurate milestone estimates, monitoring progress against schedules, and proactively communicating risks to stakeholders will also be part of your role. Furthermore, you will mentor engineers on backend best practices, API design, database modeling, and the business context of their work, and lead backend design reviews independently, establishing standards for code quality, performance, and testing coverage.

The ideal candidate will possess a BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience, with 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on backend development. Deep proficiency in Ruby and/or Python, along with strong working knowledge of TypeScript and React, is essential. You should have strong experience with API design, relational databases (PostgreSQL), and distributed systems, as well as proficiency with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines. A proven track record of leading small-to-medium teams to deliver high-quality, customer-facing applications is required, along with clear communication skills suitable for both technical and business audiences. Preferred qualifications include experience with A/B testing frameworks and data-driven experimentation in a growth or conversion-focused environment, integration of AI/ML-powered personalization or recommendation features, hands-on experience with analytics instrumentation (e.g., PostHog, Segment, Amplitude), and familiarity with frontend performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, SSR/ISR, bundle analysis).

Compensation for this role is determined by skills, experience, and geographic location, with an expected annual base salary ranging from 151,408 to 167,346 CAD. This does not include other potential components of the compensation package, such as equity, benefits, and perks.
