This pivotal role reports directly to the U.S. Managing Director and collaborates closely with teams in the U.K., including Risk, Compliance, Product, and Engineering. The position serves as the senior U.S. AML and payments risk lead, overseeing the design and effectiveness of Modulr’s U.S. BSA/AML program in alignment with sponsor bank requirements.
Key responsibilities include building and managing the U.S. risk and compliance function, translating U.K. and EU regulatory practices into a U.S.-ready operating model, and establishing controls such as CDD, KYC/KYB, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and AML in collaboration with the sponsor bank. Additionally, the VP will oversee payment scheme compliance across various networks, implement fraud prevention tools, and define transaction limits and monitoring thresholds.
Candidates should have extensive experience in payments, fintech, banking, or regulated financial services, with direct experience operating a risk, compliance, or AML function within a fintech or sponsor-bank model. A deep understanding of the U.S. payments ecosystem, including ACH, RTP, FedNow, and card networks, is essential. Strong knowledge of KYC/KYB, BSA/AML, OFAC, transaction monitoring, and fraud controls is required, along with demonstrated experience in building or scaling a compliance or risk function. Experience navigating multi-state regulatory considerations and strong stakeholder management skills across product, engineering, and executive teams are also important. Candidates must be based on the East Coast.
