Applied Research Scientist

Canva is seeking an Applied Research Scientist to join our Beijing team, focusing on advancing AI technologies to revolutionize productivity software. This role offers opportunities for candidates at all experience levels, including experienced professionals, 2025 and 2026 graduates, and interns.

In this position, you will lead efforts to develop agentic AI models utilizing the latest multimodal generation techniques. Your work will involve applying research to create high-impact applications, designing new tasks that align with real user requirements, and performing post-training of fundamental models to enhance character consistency, glyph generation, and visual aesthetics.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with generative models such as FLUX based on Diffusion Transformer, Qwen3-Coder, Qwen2.5-VL, and DeepSeek-R1. Proficiency in deploying diffusion models and large language models (LLMs), along with skills in improving efficiency through distillation, speculative sampling strategies, or quantization, is essential. A collaborative mindset and proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and cloud computing platforms are also required.
