Associate Director, State Public Policy/ Government Relations
Zip Co Limited is seeking an Associate Director of State Public Policy and Government Relations to lead the company's engagement with state legislators, regulators, industry associations, and third-party advocates. This role is pivotal in shaping policy outcomes that foster responsible innovation in digital financial services. The position offers a remote-first opportunity for U.S.-based employees, with a preference for candidates located in Washington, D.C., or those willing to work in-person from the Manhattan office.
The successful candidate will develop and execute Zip's state public policy and government affairs strategy across priority U.S. markets. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing state legislation and regulatory proposals impacting consumer lending, buy now, pay later (BNPL) services, payments, data privacy, AI governance, and financial services innovation. The role also involves drafting policy positions, comment letters, media responses, briefing materials, and executive-level memos, as well as leading state-level advocacy campaigns and representing Zip at state hearings, industry forums, and public policy events.
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in state government affairs, public policy, or legislative roles, preferably within financial services, fintech, payments, or similarly regulated industries. Some federal experience is a plus. A deep understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory language into clear business implications are essential. A bachelor's degree is required, with a concentration in public policy, law degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
