Lead Software Engineer (SSE II)
Zip Co Limited is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (SSE II) to join our Checkout squad, responsible for integrating and evolving our Checkout product used across over 40,000 ANZ merchant websites. This role offers the opportunity to work on both front-end and back-end systems, utilizing modern technologies to deliver seamless and secure checkout experiences for millions of customers. The position is based in Sydney or Melbourne, with a flexible hybrid working arrangement.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will design and develop scalable, secure, and efficient checkout solutions. Your responsibilities will include leading the end-to-end development of resilient APIs and microservices, collaborating across teams to align technical solutions with business objectives, and taking ownership of significant features to ensure high code quality and robust architecture. Additionally, you will identify and implement improvements to integration patterns, developer tooling, and system observability, while providing mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building scalable systems in a commercial environment, with solid expertise Core (C#) and modern front-end frameworks like React and Next.js. Extensive experience developing microservices and cloud-native solutions on AWS (including Kubernetes and Docker) is essential. A deep understanding of API design, integration strategies, and application performance monitoring is also required. A mindset that embraces AI and new tools, along with an aptitude for identifying and managing risks, will be highly valued.
