BMS HW Systems Engineer [AEH]
Archer is seeking a Senior BMS Hardware Systems Engineer to lead the development of airborne electronic hardware systems for high-voltage Battery Management System (BMS) electronics. This role is critical to ensuring that the hardware, sensing, and control circuitry meet the stringent safety, reliability, and certification standards required for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The engineer will develop and manage comprehensive electronic hardware requirements and design documentation, directly contributing to the certification and safe operation of Archer's battery systems powering the next generation of sustainable urban air mobility.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with various engineering disciplines to support the implementation of high-reliability, safety-critical systems for aircraft design. The engineer will develop comprehensive hardware requirements and traceability matrices aligned with system and certification requirements, define and decompose hardware system requirements with traceability through overall system architecture, and develop robust system and subsystem interface definitions. Additionally, the role involves coordinating with regulators and Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) on the development and review of AEH certification substantiation artifacts, working closely with the electrical design team to ensure the product meets desired business requirements, and participating in design reviews, hardware qualification, and root cause analysis to ensure robust and certifiable hardware performance.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, along with over 5 years of experience in systems engineering or electronic hardware qualification, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or other regulated industries. A strong understanding of mixed-signal electronic design, including analog sensing, power electronics, and microcontroller-based systems, is essential. Experience with requirements management tools such as Polarion, knowledge of design assurance and verification methodologies per DO-254 or ISO 26262, and familiarity with hardware and system certification processes under FAA or EASA frameworks are also required. Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills are crucial for success in this role.
