Business Development Director - Propulsion Products
Rocket Lab is seeking a Business Development Director for Propulsion Products to lead commercial activities for propulsion product lines, including electric propulsion systems and propellant tanks. This role is based at Rocket Lab's Auckland Production Complex and involves shaping strategy, expanding market presence, and supporting senior leadership with key deliverables for the Board of Directors and investors.
The primary responsibilities include driving sales and market expansion for propulsion products, exceeding commercial targets across tanks, thrusters, and full propulsion solutions. The role also involves leading market and competitive analysis, developing pricing strategies, and conducting sales forecasting to guide business development and inform product and service roadmaps. Additionally, the director will grow existing accounts and generate new opportunities by presenting Rocket Lab's propulsion capabilities and building strong customer relationships. Managing the revenue pipeline forecasting and overseeing bid/no-bid decisions, including end-to-end proposal planning and submission, are also key aspects of the role.
Candidates should possess a master's degree in aerospace engineering, a related engineering field, or business, along with over 12 years of experience in the aerospace or defense industries, working closely with contractors. A strong background in satellite and propulsion products, including development, manufacturing, mission design, and understanding customer requirements, is essential. Broad awareness of commercial and government satellite programs, industry technical and quality standards, and manufacturing environments is also required. Proficiency in proposal development, writing, capture processes, and the ability to independently produce cost and technical proposals are necessary. The role requires comfort with frequent travel to support customer meetings, industry events, and commercial opportunities.
