Chief Engineer, Space
The Chief Engineer, Space at Anduril Industries will lead the technical development of dynamic space operations and highly maneuverable satellites. This role involves driving technology advancements through design, build, test, and delivery phases for on-orbit operations, focusing on high delta-V propulsion systems, optical sensor suites, closed-loop guidance and navigation, and systems engineering. The Chief Engineer will collaborate closely with the Head of Engineering for Space Missions and the Growth/Strategy leads to develop a technical strategy and roadmap that leverages existing and new technologies to meet customer mission requirements.
Key responsibilities include providing technical expertise across multiple spacecraft subsystems and ground systems, leveraging strategic partnerships to develop new products for challenging mission areas, and refining the Space Based Interceptor strategy for customer engagements and demonstrations. The Chief Engineer will oversee a multidisciplinary team through all phases of program execution, from proposals to system requirements reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, test readiness reviews, assembly, qualification testing, and delivery of flight units for launch. Additionally, the role involves performing mission and system-level trade studies to balance risk, cost, and performance.
Required qualifications encompass experience in architecting, developing, and delivering defense or intelligence community satellite and space hardware and software systems. Candidates should have expertise in high delta-V spacecraft, dynamic space operations, space-based sensing, and mission operations for surveillance and reconnaissance across multiple orbits. A strong understanding of current technical states of key U.S. Space Force and intelligence community space systems and mission areas is essential. The role demands the ability to decompose complex systems with competing objectives into executable requirements and deliverables that meet government expectations. Experience with spacecraft standards for qualification and acceptance testing, such as GEVS and SMC-S-016 (MIL-STD-1540), is required. Strong technical communication skills and experience leading U.S. government contracts are also necessary. Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance is mandatory.
