Commercial Counsel, Compute & Infrastructure
As a Commercial Counsel for Compute and Infrastructure at Anthropic, you will lead the legal execution of the company's infrastructure transactions. This role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including server rack compute, networking, semiconductor procurement and development, robotics, manufacturing and supply chain operations, direct datacenter leases, construction agreements, energy procurement, data center operations, and the financing structures that enable large-scale infrastructure investments. You will collaborate closely with teams across Frontier Legal, Security, Litigation, and Public Policy, as well as specialized outside counsel, ensuring that all external work aligns with Anthropic's commercial objectives and integrates seamlessly with the overall compute strategy.
Your key responsibilities will include negotiating strategic agreements with key technology partners and major developers, representing some of Anthropic’s largest and most significant capital commitments. You will support, structure, and negotiate hardware development and procurement agreements, capacity reservation agreements, power purchase agreements, utility interconnection agreements, and manage utility-related legal requirements or initiatives, such as renewable energy projects. Additionally, you will coordinate construction and related agreements, including design-build contracts, equipment procurement, and commissioning schedules, while managing the associated legal workstreams.
To be successful in this role, you should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar. You should have 8 to 12+ years of relevant legal experience, with meaningful exposure to areas such as cloud-hardware development and procurement, semiconductor procurement or development, networking, supply chain/logistics, datacenter construction, real estate, colocation facilities, or data center operations. Fluency in commercial real estate and construction contracting, including datacenter lease structures, construction risk allocation, and financing arrangements, is essential. Experience with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), American Institute of Architects (AIA), and design-build arrangements at scale is also important.
Anthropic offers a competitive compensation package for this position, with an expected base salary ranging from $320,000 to $385,000 USD annually. The total compensation package for full-time employees includes equity, benefits, and may include incentive compensation. The company also provides generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a collaborative office environment in San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA.
