Anthropic is seeking a Policy Counsel to join our legal team, focusing on public policy and legal initiatives at the intersection of AI technology and regulation. This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally to address emerging policy challenges and advocate for frameworks that promote responsible AI development. As a rapidly growing company dedicated to creating reliable and interpretable AI systems, Anthropic provides a dynamic environment for professionals passionate about AI governance.

In this position, you will support the development of AI governance frameworks that align with evolving regulations, industry best practices, and global standards. Key responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments related to AI, providing legal analysis and advice to the External Affairs team and other public policy stakeholders, partnering with public policy and technical teams to develop practical policy guidance informed by a deep understanding of our products, and assisting in drafting policy positions, proposals, and advocacy materials.

The ideal candidate will possess a law degree and be qualified to practice law in a relevant EMEA jurisdiction. Experience with policy, regulatory, or government affairs work—whether in government, at a technology company, a law firm, or a policy organization—is essential. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to make complex legal and technical concepts accessible to non-legal audiences. Additionally, strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary to navigate ambiguous policy questions effectively.

Preferred qualifications include over six years of relevant legal experience, experience working on complex technology policy issues across AI/ML policy, data privacy, copyright, or technology regulation, familiarity with EMEA legislative and regulatory processes, including experience with EU or national-level advocacy, experience drafting policy positions, comment letters, or regulatory submissions, demonstrated ability to quickly understand AI concepts and translate them into policy contexts, interest in government affairs matters, and a commitment to responsible AI development. A collaborative, humble approach and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams are also valued.

The annual compensation for this role ranges from £200,000 to £240,000 GBP. Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, including optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a collaborative office environment. For this role, we expect all staff to be able to work from our London or Dublin office at least three days a week, though we encourage you to apply even if you might need some flexibility for an interim period of time. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourage candidates from underrepresented groups to apply.
