Cost Value Engineer, Supply Chain
The Cost Value Engineer (internally known as Product Sourcing Engineer) at Anduril Industries is responsible for developing strategic supply networks and managing the cost of product hardware throughout their lifecycles. This role involves close collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, and manufacturing, to ensure efficient and cost-effective product development.
Key responsibilities include selecting suppliers from an approved list, partnering with strategic suppliers to accelerate product development through activities such as concept scoping, feature trade-offs, cost modeling, joint design development, and simulation of mechanical and electronic designs. The engineer will also drive the development and consolidation of manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs), manage capital expenditures throughout new product introduction (NPI), conduct value-stream mapping to optimize supply network lead time and flexibility, complete BOM risk assessments, ensure component qualifications ahead of production, reduce complexity through commonality optimization and supplier rationalization, lead cost engineering activities to align product costs with targets, and manage ad-hoc cost issues like tariffs and cost inflation.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field and at least one year of experience in sourcing engineering, supplier engagement and development, or design of electronic and/or mechanical devices. Domain expertise in value/procurement engineering or total cost of ownership (TCO) at the component and product level is required. The role requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time and relocate to be onsite in Costa Mesa, CA, if not already local.
Preferred qualifications include a master's or advanced technical degree, deeper experience in design and development of electronic and/or mechanical devices, advanced sourcing activities, supplier development, early supplier engagement, familiarity with developing high-tech products in a high-mix, low-volume environment, exposure to working in a fast-paced startup environment, and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret clearance.
